BRYAN - A Navasota man is arrested on theft charges after police say he stuffed several packages of meat down his pants in a failed attempt to steal them from a grocery store.
According to the probable cause statement, a theft prevention officer at the HEB located at 725 E. Villa Maria, spotted Michael Lee Powell, 40, and another man select several packages of meat Friday afternoon, put them in a shopping cart and then go to the frozen food aisle. There, police say Powell stuffed the meat in his waistband and left the store without paying for them.
The theft prevention officer detained Powell. He recovered four rib-eye steaks and a mesquite smoked brisket. After he was handcuffed by Bryan Police, the officer discovered a split style brisket in Powell’s pants.
Powell was booked into the Brazos County Jail for theft and parole violation.
