NAVASOTA An armed person who reportedly barricaded themselves in a Navasota home has been taken into custody after a standoff Saturday night.
As reported by our News 3 Network partners at the Navasota Examiner, the yet-to-be-identified man was taken by authorities around 9:35 p.m.
According to city spokesperson Corey Johnson, there had been a welfare concern call that brought authorities to the area on the west side of town. An exact address was not immediately identified by the newspaper, and an initial call to Johnson by News 3 had not been returned late Saturday night.
The suspect had reportedly been firing shots.
“As officers determined the individual was intoxicated, they then tried to check the property for any safety concern and were turned away," Johnson told the Examiner. "When such an instance happens, officers do their best to secure the perimeter."
A College Station Police SWAT team, DPS and the Grimes County Sheriff's Office assisted Navasota Police, with a staging area at the nearby Dollar General on North LaSalle. Neighbors were told by authorities to remain inside.
A hostage negotiator eventually convinced the man to surrender.
No injuries were reported.
