BRAZOS COUNTY - Here are a few of the events planned for Memorial Day Monday in and around Bryan/College Station.
Several local heritage, historical and patriotic organizations will place U.S. flags at the College Station Cemetery to honor veterans. Flag planting starts at 8:30 a.m. The cemetery is located at 2530 Texas Ave.
Team Red, White and Blue will host a Memorial Day Event "Carry the Load" Ruck Run at 9 a.m. at the George Bush Presidential Library Museum. Team RWB is a non profit that seeks to enrich the lives of America's Veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.
The American Legion Post #159 is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony. This year's speaker is current Vice President of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University and retired United States Marine Lt. Gen. Joe Webber. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. The post is located at 101 Waco St. in Bryan.
The Elks Lodge #859 is holding its annual Fish Fry Luncheon for American Veterans and their families. Things kick off at Noon. This year's guest speaker is John Wayne Impersonator Dr. Gene Howard. The lodge is located at 304 Mobile Ave. in Bryan.
Bryan High Band, Color Guard to represent Texas in the National Memorial Day Parade 75 students will showcase some of Bryan's best in Washington, D.C.
The Bryan High School Viking Band and Color Guard will bring a bit of Bryan to Washington, D.C. on May 26 at the Memorial Day parade. The 2014 parade commemorates the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. Some 75 Viking students will march in the parade at 1 p.m. (central).
Boy Scout Troop 967 is holding their Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast and Garage Sale at 7 a.m. at the corner of Deacon Dr. and Welsh Ave, in College Station. Come participate in the annual fundraiser for Boy Scout Troop 967. There will be a large garage sale accompanied by a pancake breakfast and Memorial Day service.
