BRYAN - A solemn ceremony Saturday marking the one-year anniversary of the deadliest event in the Bryan Fire Department's history.
More than 100 people gathered at the Firefighters Memorial Monument in downtown Bryan to honor Lieutenants Eric Wallace and Greg Pickard who died in the Knights of Columbus Hall fire and two of the men who tried saving them--Ricky Mantey and Mitch Moran who were both badly injured.
It was a fitting tribute Saturday afternoon for Lieutenants Wallace and Pickard who served as leaders within the department.
"Their names pickard and wallace etched into stone not as a day of sadness but a day of reflection. What they've done for all of us," said Lt. Bubba McGovern with he Bryan Fire Department.
Greg Pickard and Eric Wallace's names will be added to the current memorial and a new memorial wall will be built to honor firefighters lost and those who've retired. Firefighters Ricky Mantey and Mitch Moran were honored for their heroism during a grueling recovery process.
It was announced that Moran has been cleared to go back to work full time.
