Messina Hof Winery Opens Hill Country Location

It's a moment that's been years in the making.

But unlike a fine wine, this plan was able to age into fruition in a matter of months.

The new Messina Hof Hill Country Winery opened its doors eight months after construction started and now the wine with Brazos Valley roots has found fertile land in central Texas.

"The folks in Fredericksburg have done a wonderful job of making a real location for wine. Bryan/College Station is doing the same. We've created the Texas Reds Festival, which has been outstanding. But Fredericksburg has had this festival for over 20 years and as a result, within 10 miles of our location, there at 18 wineries. So as you develop critical mass, it develops an incredible amount of tourism for the location," said Paul Bonarrigo, owner of Messina Hof.

Bonarrigo started his winery in 1983 and now has expanded to a new market with the hopes of bottling up the same success he's had in the Brazos Valley for 28 years.

"The market in Bryan is really a lot of Houstonians, the market here is a lot people from Austin and San Antonio. We're going to be able to broaden the market and bring tourism back to Bryan because of our exposure here," said Bonarrigo.

There isn't a vineyard at the Messina Hof Hill Country location yet so every drop of the wine sold in it's Fredericksburg location is produced locally in Bryan.

One of the few things Paul hopes he can cork up is the central Texas love for live music.

"Food, wine, and music go great together so I'm hoping to bring that to the Bryan location as well," said Bonarrigo.

And like the philosopher Plato said, "In Wine is Truth," and the truth is it's the wine that continues to bring in the business.

The new Messina Hof Hill Country Winery is located at 9996 US Hwy 290 East in Fredericksburg.
