WASHINGTON COUNTY - Texas A Washington County woman, missing for several days, was found dead in a wooded area near her home on Thursday.

Glenda Sommerfield, 52, was last seen Sunday night walking away from her home on FM 390 near Highway 105.

Sommerfield's body was found around 8:50 Thursday morning. Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak said she died from an apparent self-inflicted wound.

Crews had to use chain saws to cut their way through the wooded area where she was found, along with search dogs from the Bryan Search Dog Network to find Sommerfield's body.

Recent rains hampered search efforts.

The sheriff's office said Sommerfield may have been in possession of a weapon, but posed no threat to the public.

Several law enforcement agencies including Brenham Police, Washington County EMS, DPS and TDCJ helped with the search.
