More Suspicious Fires Near Bedias

Two more suspicious fires in an area between Bedias and Madisonville on top of two other strange fires last week have investigators trying to figure out if these fires are being set on purpose.

Before these latest fires, some residents in that area were already on edge.

Someone may be intentionally setting fires in this normally quiet neighborhood off Tyler Park Road near the Madison and Grimes County line.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Shiver is one of those trying to get to the bottom of it. "This is the last fire. This is the largest one, consumed anywhere from 30 to 50 acres."

More burned grass and trees from two new fires near Bedias, one of them with an indication of arson, are ominous signs that have some residents and investigators worried.

Deputy Shiver warns, "One of the main concerns basically is the safety of the people out here. They're isolated, so it's kind of hard sometimes to let them know that there is the possibility of some danger."

Just last week the Bedias Fire Department responded to two other suspicious fires, a brush fire that burned 30 acres, and just down the street, a fire at an abandoned house.

Madison County Sheriff Travis Neeley says, "We did recover a container, I believe, that had some accelerants in it. This was retained by the Bedias Fire Chief to be turned over to the State Fire Marshal."
