Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader of the United States House of Representatives in the 112th Congress, will speak on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 20, at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, this program will take place in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at the George Bush Presidential Library Center. Andrew H. Card, Jr., Acting Dean of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service, will moderate a conversation with Leader Pelosi.

House Minority Leader Pelosi served as the first woman Speaker of the House and is also the first woman in American history to lead a major political party in Congress. Minority Leader Pelosi will mark her 25th year of service in the House representing San Francisco, California's Eighth District, this year.

Minority Leader Pelosi brings to her leadership position a distinguished record of legislative accomplishments. She spearheaded passage of historic health insurance reform legislation in the House which grants a Patients' Bill of Rights and will provide insurance for 32 million more Americans while lowering health care costs over the long term. Other accomplishments include the passage of historic investments in college aid, clean energy and innovation, and initiates to help small businesses and veterans. House Minority Leader Pelosi has been a powerful voice for civil rights and human rights around the world for decades.

Dean Card was appointed to the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in July 2011. Formerly, Mr. Card served as Chief of Staff for President George W. Bush from 2000-2006. During President George H.W. Bush's administration, Mr. Card was Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff. He also served as the 11th U.S. Secretary of Transportation. In President Reagan's administration, Mr. Card served as Special Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs, Deputy Assistant to the President, and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.

The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation was established in 1991 as a nonprofit educational foundation to design, build, and support the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University. In addition to sponsoring its own programs and activities, the Foundation provides logistical and financial support to the Library, as well as the George Bush School of Government and Public Service. Through its outreach, the Foundation is helping make the George Bush Presidential Library Center a leading institution in cultural, policy, and academic discussions.

The Bush School of Government and Public Service offers a comprehensive educational experience designed to cultivate professionalism and principle in public service. The Bush School offers Master’s degree programs in Public Service and Administration (MPSA), International Affairs (MPIA), and Joint Degree programs. In addition, certifications are offered in Advanced International Affairs, China Studies, Homeland Security, National Security Affairs and Nonprofit Management. Since its foundation in 1995, the Bush School has established three institutes to conduct policy-oriented research: Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy; Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs; and Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics and Public Policy.
