The 2012 Annual National Night Out will be this Tuesday, October 2, 2012.

The kickoff event for National Night Out was held September 15th at the Bryan Target store and was a great success.

Now it’s time to have your own block party.

All residents are encouraged to step outside on this evening, meet their neighbors and visit with local law enforcement officers, who will be stopping at neighborhood block parties throughout the evening upon request.

Block parties typically start after 5:00 pm and head into the evening hours.

If you are interested in organizing and hosting a ‘block party’ for your neighborhood in Bryan, please contact Sgt. Demond Oliver with the Neighborhood Enforcement Team. Sgt. Oliver can be reached at 979-209-5539 or emailed at oliverd@bryantx.gov.

The form to register your party can be found at www.bryantx.gov.

That evening Deputy Frank will also host a “Parents: You Matter” course for parents with teens.

If you are a Texas A&M University student on campus, the University Police Department along with the Department of Residence Life will be hosting a community gathering at the University Apartment Community Center October 2, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The goal of NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is to heighten awareness for crime and drug abuse prevention, to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
