*UPDATE*

In light of the death of a student, the Navasota superintendent says the school district considered cancelling this week's football game. At this point, the game will continue as planned.

Navasota ISD Superintendent Rory Gesch said the Navasota High School Rattlers would still open District play this Friday night in Rockdale at 7:30 p. m. since, the funeral is set for Sunday for junior Kallie Neutzler.

Visitation will be held this Saturday, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Nobles Funeral Chapel. The funeral service is set for Sunday, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Navasota. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Initial autopsy reports confirm Neutzler died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

*ORIGINAL STORY*

A Navasota High School cheerleader has died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen that was possibly self inflicted, according to the Grimes County Sheriff's Department.

"We lost one of our Navasota High School students," said Rory Gesch, Superintendent of Navasota ISD.

Kallie Neutzler, 16, died Wednesday morning at the College Station Medical Center. Officials say her parents found her in her bedroom Wednesday morning.

There is no evidence of foul play, but an investigation into Neutzler's death is ongoing. An autopsy has been ordered.

Meantime, grief counselors are assisting students dealing with Neutzler's death.

On Wednesday, the superintendent wore a ribbon on his lapel, made by students, honoring Kallie. She's was a well-known student who cheered on the sidelines at Rattler Stadium.

"There's deep concern for the family, our students, and our staff, said Gesch.

Many students left school early Wednesday to cope with the tragedy.

"Its now hard to be 16 years old and be in society today," said Brittney Taylor, a Navasota resident.

Taylor says her sister and Kallie were friends. Taylor also mentioned her mother is a local pastor, who went to the school to console students and staff. Taylor says she's praying for those closest to Kallie.

"The more you progress, it is just harder to live life," said Taylor.
