Neighbors Help Police Catch Two Burglars

Updated: Thu 10:52 PM, Sep 13, 2012

College Station Police arrested two men for allegedly burglarizing a home on the 400 block of Forest Drive Wednesday night.

Texas A&M students say they witnessed Lorenzo Levi, 18 years old, and Dwanteria Cross, 18 years old, walking out the back gate of a friend’s house Wednesday.

“One guy was pretty large guy, the other guy was pretty slender,” said Ray Baca.

Baca says he warned his friends, then called police.

The back gate had been left open and chairs in the back yard were knocked over.

Jane Riser was watching television when the suspects were in her backyard.

“I didn't hear it, I wasn't expecting it. And then for them to say somebody's been right there…It blows my mind. It’s crazy,” said Riser.

Ray Baca says he followed the suspects around the neighborhood, then into a nearby parking lot.

“I sat in the corner of the parking lot and watched them. They were walking up and down the sidewalk there, looking to see if I was still watching…and I was,” said Baca.

Police arrived and arrested the two suspects.

“We need the community to be our eyes and ears. There's only a handful of officers on the street at a time. You live in your neighborhood. You know what should and shouldn't be there,” said College Station Sgt. Calder Lively.

Levi and Cross have been charged with burglary of a habitation. Cross has been arrested for burglary of a habitation three times this summer.

Levi remained in Brazos County Jail Thursday night with a $30,000 bond.

Cross’ bond was set at $54,000. Cross also remained in Brazos County Jail Thursday night.
