Flags all over Brazos County were at half staff two days after a tragic shooting in College Station killed 3 people and injured four more.
“It was senseless, it shouldn't have happened,” said Josh Hicock, Genghis Grill General Manager. “We need to get it out there that, no, we're a community that has so much more positive in it.”
One example of that positive, giving spirit can be found at the College Station Hilton.
“They come here, they don't have to worry about paying for the room, they don't have to worry about finding a room. They can go ahead and deal with the tragedy that just happened,” said Hilton General Manager Barron Hobbs.
The Hilton in College Station had provided 14 free rooms for family members of shooting victims Wednesday night.
The Genghis Grill plans to hold a fundraiser Tuesday, August 21st. Every dollar will go to the Bachmann and Northcliffe families. Genghis Grill managers say gift card proceeds will also be donated to the families, in case people don’t have time to have a meal Thursday.
“It's the right thing to do, it’s our community,” said Hicok.
The list of ways community members have stepped up to lend a hand is long. A neighbor lined Constable Brian Bachmann's street with flags. A sheriff's deputy has been parked outside the Bachmann's home to provide security and support for his family. Wings n' More has offered to provide free meals for those sheriff's deputies.
“It’s a very giving community. It's unbelievable what this community does for one another,” said Hobbs. “We don't do it for publicity, seriously. We do it because we want to help the community.”
