A new grocery store is in the works for a busy area of College Station.
It would be the first store on University Drive in more than a year and a half after a nearby Albertsons closed down.
A Sprouts Farmers Market could spring up later this year.
Shoppers we spoke with were somewhat surprised and many excited that a new grocery store is in the works here between Petsmart and the Home Depot on University Drive.
For many residents having a nearby grocery store will make life more convenient.
It's where Linens N Things used to be, but something new is in the works for the shopping strip on University Drive behind Newk's and Texas Roadhouse in College Station.
A grocery store known as Sprouts Farmers Market has applied for a permit to change this empty building into a 28,000 square foot store.
The Arizona-based grocery store chain sells healthier choice foods including dairy, meat and fresh produce. They have stores across Texas like in Fort Worth and even Austin.
"It'll be a stop along the way for sure," said Micah White.
White lives in north Bryan but comes here at least every other week to the Petsmart with his dog Oakley.
"I think it'll be a great idea. I don't know if the location is ideal but I think having something since you're located right here will be really good," he said.
Sprouts says they're one of the fastest growing retailers nationally with nearly 150 stores. Besides opening up shop here in College Station they're also planning to expand to Houston and Katy.
It's been more than year and a half since the Albertsons further down University Drive closed after the property was purchased by H-E-B.
Janice Carpenter comes to town for shopping several times a month from Normangee and gets groceries in Bryan.
"Yes! I think I would be great because I'm here all the time it would save a stop, so I would think that it would be wonderful," said Carpenter.
"Regardless of where it is I think we need, I think we need at least some kind of grocery store on University Drive, because from here to all the way out to 2818 there's nothing," said White.
City staff tell us they are still reviewing the permit and don't have a timeline for when they might open for business.
If it is approved we're told Sprouts has plans to do $1.8 million in renovations.
City Staff tell us a permit is also being reviewed for a new restaurant called Napa Flats in the Kohl's Shopping Center at Texas Avenue and Harvey.
