New Student Housing Hot Spots Open For Business

Dozens of students packed their bags and made their way to College Station Friday, lining up to be among the first residents to live in the latest in student housing.

The Stack is a five-story development just across the Street from Texas A&M.

Sawyer Wilson, 18, will be a freshman at Texas A&M. She spent most of her day Friday moving in to her new room at The Stack.

"I was excited," Sawyer said. "A little nervous to be away from my family, but I'm ready for some change and new experience."

The Stack stands quite literally in the shadow of its 18-story neighbor, The Rise at Northgate. Both offer plenty of amenities for students, and both were designed with student success in mind. The Rise even offers on site tutors. All students have to do is make an appointment and go downstairs.

Both communities have secured access, garage parking and high-speed wireless internet. They also offer lounging areas for residents.

Officials for both think they have something more to offer.

Whitley Turner is the leasing manager for The Stack. She said their development is hands down the better move.

"We do have three study rooms on every floor and a 24-hour conference rooms," said Whittley. "We want to see our kids here start school and finish."

Nick Hill with The Rise at Northgate said their community is the safer choice.

"We really focus on getting students what they need to succeed," said Hill. "while the other communities may have the largest pool in town, we offer security. We've got a smart phone app to control guests. And we are really the gated community that's clean and secure that you come back to after the party."

Rent for both places starts at around $700. The Rise also offers a $1500 penthouse suite.

The Stack is owned by the Culpeppers -long time developers in the local community.

While The Stack opened its doors to all of its new dwellers Friday, The Rise focused on a staggered move in over the next few days. More traffic delays should be expected over the weekend.
