AMARILLO, Texas - Officials continue investigating the cause of a gas pipeline explosion in the rural Texas Panhandle.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports there were no injuries but one landowner told authorities an outbuilding and some of his farm equipment was burned.

The explosion, which happened shortly after 1 a.m. CST Wednesday, sent flames shooting hundreds of feet into the air. The blast happened east of Pampa, which is about 60 miles northeast of Amarillo.

Authorities said a portion of a highway near the explosion was shut down for nearly two hours as firefighters battled the blaze.

The Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, which owns the pipeline, says the conduit was shut down shortly after the explosion.
