President Obama Looks to Governors For Help With Economy

By: Associated Press
By: Associated Press

President Barack Obama tells governors that absent congressional action on jobs, he's willing to create partnerships with states to boost the economy and the middle class.

Obama notes that while he has called to increase the minimum wage, six states have moved to raise wages on their own. And he salutes governors, Republicans and Democrats, who have expanded Medicaid to provide health care to lower income workers.

The governors were at the White House Monday as part of a National Governors' Association meeting in Washington. The governors, Republicans and Democrats, also attended a black-tie dinner at the White House Sunday.

Obama jokes that some governors have desires to run for higher office and might be eyeing both the White House drapes and each other.
