ALGIERS, Algeria - - The death toll from the bloody terrorist siege at a natural gas plant in the Sahara has climbed to at least 81.

Algerian forces searching the complex for explosives found at least 25 more bodies today. A security official says many were so badly disfigured they could not immediately be identified, and officials are having trouble determining whether the dead were hostages or the attackers.

The Algerian government says 23 hostages and 32 captors are known to have died but those figures are expected to rise.

Meanwhile, the White House says it will work with the Algerian government to understand how the attack unfolded. Adviser David Plouffe tells CBS' "Face the Nation" and "Fox News Sunday" that the attack is a reminder of the threat from terrorists who "will use civilians to try and advance their twisted and sick agenda."
