Police have arrested an 11-year-old for saying he would bring a gun to his middle school.

Officials said other witnesses confirmed the threat being made.

School administrators and the Pearland Police Department immediately conducted an investigation, and the student was not allowed to go to school on Thursday.

Parents were notified about what happened and admit this makes them nervous. ,P.”It’s very scary knowing that something bad could happen,” said parent Dawn Clark. “I mean, you hear about this stuff on the news all the time.”

The Brazoria County District Attorney's Office filed a terroristic threat charge against the 11-year-old.

Police arrested the student around 1 p.m. He was taken to the Brazoria County Juvenile Detention Facility. “Students don't need to be making these kinds of threats and they need to really understand that it’s very serious.” Said Pearland police Lt. Onesimo Lopez. “You can't make an idle threat like this and expect nothing will happen.”

Pearland ISD says there was an increased police presence at Rogers Middle School on Thursday.

In a news release, the district says, “Our top priority is maintaining a safe and secure educational environment for our students, and we immediately investigate rumors connected to their safety. We encourage students to talk to a trusted adult if they hear or see anything out of the ordinary or suspicious.”
