An 87-year-old man is dead after a Christmas tree went up in flames and fire swept through a suburban Dallas home on Christmas Eve.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/10dclTa) reports four others who were in the Plano home when the fire erupted escaped unharmed.
Firefighters were called to the home at about 7 p.m. on Monday. Plano Fire Capt. Peggy Harrell says firefighters pulled the 87-year-old man from the home as it filled with fire and smoke.
A department spokeswoman says the victim was in town to spend Christmas with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. His identity has not been released.
A firefighter who tried to rescue the man suffered burns that are not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
