Police: Madison Co. Man Confesses to Shaking and Dropping 5-Month-Old

Updated: Thu 5:29 PM, Nov 15, 2012

A five-month old who was violently shaken by his father in Madisonville remains in critical but stable condition in Houston. Investigators with the Madisonville Police department arrested Douglas Richard Bellmore Junior just after lunch Thursday morning.

During questioning Bellmore confessed he shook the baby boy because he wouldn't stop crying. While Bellmore was shaking the baby, he confessed he accidentally dropped him on the floor.

The incident happened two days ago. Paramedics along with a PHI Helicopter Air Medic Team were called to the scene. Due to the infant's condition, he was air-lifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

We're told once the infant is released from the hospital he will be placed in the custody of relatives until both Madisonville Police Department and Child Protective Services concludes their investigation.

The Madison County Police Chief says Bellmore's bond has not been set and remains in the Madison County Jail indefinitely.

News 3 will continue following the story and bring you updates as soon as they become available.
