COLUMBIA, Md. - Investigators and acquaintances of Darion Marcus Aguilar, a quiet, skinny teenager who graduated from high school less than a year ago and had no previous run-ins with the law, are baffled as to why he fatally shot two people and then himself at a Maryland mall.
Police spent Sunday trying to piece together his motive for the shooting Saturday at the Mall in Columbia, but it remains elusive.
They say they found Aguilar's journal and it merely expresses some general unhappiness.
Howard County Police Chief William McMahon says they removed the journal from Aguilar's house.
He says investigators are still interviewing friends and family of the gunman and the victims, but are not sure yet whether they knew each other.
Aguilar was armed with a shotgun, plenty of ammunition and a backpack filled with crude homemade explosives.
