CONROE, Texas -- An athletic trainer at Willis High School is facing charges after he was allegedly caught in a vehicle with a student.
The Conroe Police Department arrested 31-year-old Christopher Patterson on a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between educator and student, police said.
Police said they were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Wiggins Village Dog Park on Bryant Road Sunday afternoon. Police say they found two people in the car: Patterson and a 17-year-old girl.
Officers said they became suspicious because the pair gave conflicting statements as to why they were there.
Their investigation revealed the girl is a student at the school where Patterson works as a contract employee.
She later admitted they had sex, according to police.
Patterson, who also works at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, was then taken into custody and charged. His bond was set at $100,000.
"It shocks me, it kind of does," said John Mohr, whose daughter worked with Patterson when she was injured. "I wouldn’t have guessed. No. He’s been a great athletic trainer."
Police are concerned there may be other possible victims and they’re asking them to come forward if they have information about Patterson.
"We are deeply disturbed and dismayed by these allegations and will cooperate fully with the Conroe Police Department investigation," said Willis ISD Superintendent Tim Harkrider in a statement on the district’s website. "The safety and security of all the children entrusted to our care by the Willis ISD community is our top priority."
"We want to assure the community that while the trainer was never an employee of the district, we did conduct our standard background review prior to the trainer’s contact with our students," Harkrider continued.
"Our school district will never tolerate anyone who works on our campuses having an improper relationship with our students," Harkrider stated. "We will work closely with law enforcement authorities to ensure an appropriate resolution of the situation."
