Pot Plane's Pilot a Prominent Former Razorback Player

News 3 is learning more about the pilot of a plane that landed at the Brenham Airport on March 8th that Texas Department of Public Safety investigators say was hauling about 65 pounds of marijuana worth about $30,000.

After landing to refuel on a flight from McAllen, the pilot, Vernon Murphy, and passenger, Freddy Aguayo were arrested and accused of trafficking drugs.

Besides previously serving as a minister at a Texarkana church, Murphy is best known for being the first African-American basketball player on scholarship at the University of Arkansas. He played for the Razorbacks from 1969 to 1972 and received the university's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011.

Both men remain in the Washington County jail.
