An estimated 8,000 College Station Utilities customers lost power Thursday afternoon for about an hour and a half.
CSU officials say equipment failed at a substation by the Post Oak Mall.
That knocked out power across the city with many traffic lights out and businesses being left in the dark.
Power also briefly flickered at Texas A&M as their power plant had to adjust for the power outage and BTU customers also reported their lights flickered as well.
"Essentially we had an equipment failure on top of one of our substations transformers at Post Oak Substation. And the outage affected customers from Highway 6 to University, Harvey Road and then to Texas in that area. It happened about 3 o'clock and we were able to get all the customers back on about 4:15," said Timothy Crabb, CSU Director for Electric Utilities.
It's still unknown exactly why the equipment failed.
Power has been restored to customers in the City of College Station following widespread outages Thursday afternoon.
The reports started coming in to News 3 around 3:00 p.m. About an hour-and-a-half later, the city reported power was back.
Followers on KBTX Media's Facebook page and KBTX News' Twitter page began listing their various locations shortly after the outages began. Some reported just flickering lights or brief outages, but most reported longer times without power.
No reason has been given by the city. However, Bryan Texas Utilities tells News 3 it was a blown transformer at the Post Oak substation.
Others on the Texas A&M campus and in Bryan say they experienced flickering power or outages.
A BTU spokesperson says their power operations have been normal, and that the issue was College Station's.
ERCOT, the operator of the state's power grid, is reporting normal conditions.
