With the swearing in of the 113th Congress Thursday comes some changes in who represents the region in Washington.
The entire state will have a new senator, as Houston attorney Ted Cruz takes the seat previously held by the retiring Kay Bailey Hutchison. John Cornyn will now be Texas' senior senator.
Bill Flores, Kevin Brady and Michael McCaul each coasted to victories in the November general elections for their U.S. House seats, but the areas they represent have changed due to redistricting.
District 17 (Rep. Bill Flores)
Bastrop (northern tip)
Lee (north and west portions)
Leon (northern half)
Travis (northeast portion)
8th District (Rep. Kevin Brady)
Harris (northern portion)
Leon (southern half)
10th District (Rep. Michael McCaul)
Bastrop (northern and eastern portions)
Harris (western portion)
Lee (southern and middle portions)
Travis (northern and eastern portions)
Congressmen Joe Barton (District 6) and John Carter (District 31) had previously represented portions of the area, but redistricting shifted their representation.
All of the aforementioned elected officials are Republicans.
