Brazos Valley Communications' 100-hour Radio MASH ended on Monday at 10 a.m. and the good news is the goal of collecting toys for more than 6100 children was met.

Thanks to kind-hearted and loyal listeners, the goal for the 29th annual Make A Smile Happen marathon toy collection was surpassed. DJ's ended up accepting more than 6200 items. Throughout the entire drive, volunteers camped out at the Post Oak Mall parking lot gathering new and gently used toys that will be distributed to needy children.

Thursday afternoon in Walker County, radio station, KSAM in Huntsville ended its Radio MASH drive where food and toys were collected for some of Walker County's needy.

For almost 24-hours, DJ's and MASH or Make A Smile Happen volunteers accepted donations from under the Texas Army National Guard tent that was just about filled to capacity.

Organizers say the DJ's at the station are simply the voice for cause that provides food to about 500 families served by Huntsville's Good Shepherd Mission and toys for about 1,000 children. Just one example of how the two-day drive brought the community together is exemplfied through the generosity of employees from one company who donated 34 brand new bikes.
