ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) The Texas Rangers are hosting a night to honor residents and first responders from the town devastated by a fertilizer plant explosion.
Saturday's "City of West Night" is expected to draw thousands of people from West, about 80 miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth. The April 17 blast killed 15 people, including 12 people responding to an initial fire, and displaced hundreds of people.
Pre-game ceremonies include Rangers DH Lance Berkman's donation of a fire truck to West's volunteer fire department, which lost several members. City officials will also be presented with donations from Major League Baseball, the Players Association and the Rangers' foundation.
Fans are asked to bring new or gently used bats, gloves and other baseball equipment to drop off at any stadium entrance before the game.
