University of Texas System regents have scheduled a Thursday meeting to discuss and possibly vote on whether to withhold email and other records from state lawmakers.
Regents Chairman Gene Powell has asked state Attorney General Greg Abbott for permission to withhold records. He's concerned releasing some documents to lawmakers could damage attorney-client privilege and disrupt investigations and other board matters.
The regents are engaged in a public dispute with lawmakers over the regents' role in governing the day-to-day affairs of the flagship campus at Austin and perceived attempts to force out President Bill Powers.
Lawmakers have special legal authority to review confidential university records and have submitted several demands for access.
According a posted agenda, most of Thursday's regents meeting is to be held in private.
