Mother Nature does not seem to be providing any assistance to area farmers and ranchers, so local residents plan to call on a higher power to bring much needed rain.

The Caldwell Area Ministerial Alliance announced it will hold a community wide prayer rally for rain.

The rally will be Sunday, April 17 at 3p.m. on the steps of the Burleson County Courthouse.

All who attend are encouraged to bring an umbrella.

Texas has been plagued with dry conditions for several months now and portions of the Brazos Valley and Eastern Texas were recently placed under an "Exceptional Drought."

According to the National Weather Service in Houston, Easterwood Airport has only received a trace of rain for the month of April. Since Jan. 1, the airport has only received 4.29 inches of rain. Normally Bryan/College Station averages 9.76 inches of rain at this point in the year, leaving the area in a deficit of almost 5.5 inches. Last year at this time, B/CS recorded 8.41 inches of rain.
