Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
It’s been nearly a month since a North Texas assistant district attorney was shot and killed, just feet from the courthouse. Now authorities say, reward money for information in the case has reached six-figures.
On January 31, 2013, Mark Hasse was shot several times as he walked from the parking lot to the Kaufman County Courthouse. The murder was especially brazen because it happened just before 9 o’clock in the morning.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Pat Laney confirmed to CBS 11 News that the reward amount in the Hasse case now stands at $100,000.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s have been working non-stop to solve the murder and have been joined by members of the Texas Rangers, state troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and ATF agents.
Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland also said investigators are expanding the search area for the murderer. “[There are] 55 billboards around Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana showing the case and the reward,” he said. “When you don’t have a specific target then you spread your net as wide as you can. You never know what you might catch.”
As it stands, authorities are still on the lookout for at least one suspect, possibly two, who were involved in the shooting. The individuals are believed to be male and at the time of the murder were possibly dressed in black clothing. The race of the suspects is unknown.
The search also continues for a vehicle possible linked to the murder — as a possibly dark brown or silver-colored sedan, similar to a Ford Taurus, with no license plates.
Hasse, 57, had been a felony prosecutor for Kaufman County since July of 2010.
Investigators are still asking that anyone with information about the shooting or suspects please contact Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at 877-TIPSKCC (847-7522) or send a text to 274637.
