In Robertson County, two organizations teamed up to combat a growing problem according to investigators.

The Robertson County Community Coalition teamed up with the Drug Enforcement Administration this morning for their annual pill roundup.

The event helps residents dispose their unused or expired pills in an effort to prevent teenagers from abusing prescription pills which investigators say is a big issue in the area.

A spokesperson for the coalition said one out of three teenagers who took their survey said they had stolen pills from family medicine cabinets.

"A lot of people have medicine cabinets with unused pills, and for some reason, teenagers will get in there. We just want to make sure the community is a little bit safer by offering our service,” said Michael Chism with RCCC.

The RCCC received hundreds of bottles with each containing 10 to 500 pills.
