The more that you read, the more things you will know.
For 100 years the Robertson County Carnegie Library in Franklin has been inspiring people of all ages to pick up a book and read.
The library celebrated its centennial anniversary Tuesday with a come and go reception and short program highlighting the library's history.
In 1913, Mayor R.M. Cole wrote the Carnegie Foundation in New York to ask for funding for a library. The city received $7,500 from the foundation and it opened its doors in 1914.
Out of 31 libraries that Andrew Carnegie built in the state of Texas there are five that are still active: Ballinger, Stamford, Franklin (Robertson County Carnegie Library), Jefferson, and Bryan/College Station.
Unlike the Carnegie Library in Bryan, you can check out books at the Franklin location similar to what you would find at a public library.
