Rumble Strips Coming to Work Zones in Bryan

The next time you’re on the roadway and see all those orange highway construction signs, you may notice something different. The difference will be rumble strips in the work zone. Rumble strips are an array of ¾ of inch high strips placed in the traffic lane to produce a slight bump under the car’s tires. They are placed across the lane to help alert drivers to changing road conditions in construction work zones. The strips have been tested and pose no danger to the vehicles driving over them. TxDOT and their Contractors will begin to use the rumble strips in their work zones soon.

“April is National Work Zone Safety Month and TxDOT wants everyone who travels and works in highway construction zones to make it through safely”, stated Bob Colwell, TxDOT’s Bryan Public Information Officer. “These new rumble strips are another tool to warn motorists to slow down, put down the cell devices, and pay attention in work zones.”

The Bryan District of TxDOT consists of Brazos, Burleson, Freestone, Grimes, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker and Washington Counties.
