Walker County Sheriff's Office
HUNTSVILLE - Authorities in Walker County are warning residents of a scam that's hitting the area.
According to Capt. Tim Whitecotten, a person claiming to be a member of the Walker County Sheriff's Office calls, refers to the person by their name, tells them they didn't show up for jury duty, claims a fine has been assessed, and says if the person doesn't pay, they'll be arrested by the end of the day.
The scammer has asked for payment in a variety of ways, including money cards and credit cards.
Whitecotten says the scam took place in Montgomery County last month, in Harris County in February, and has been documented back to 2006 in the northeast.
If you receive one of these calls in Walker County, you're asked to call the sheriff's office at (936) 435-2400.
