HOUSTON (AP) - Officials in Southeast Texas are preparing for icy conditions as a cold front was expected to bring sleet, freezing rain and possibly snow.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Houston and Southeast Texas for Tuesday.
The Houston school district as well as others in Southeast Texas, including Beaumont and Fort Bend, cancelled classes for Tuesday. Government offices and buildings and courts in Houston as well as in Harris and Galveston counties will also be closed.
Central Texas could also see light freezing rain, sleet and possible snow on Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety say they will monitor roadways.
Icy conditions last Friday left freeway overpasses and bridges ice-covered and slippery, causing numerous traffic wrecks in Central and Southeast Texas.
