SH 105 Bridge Replacement Public Hearing

By: TxDOT
By: TxDOT

BRAZOS, GRIMES, & WASHINGTON COUNTIES — The Bryan District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public hearing regarding proposed changes to the alignment of SH 105 to facilitate the replacement of three bridges.

The proposed project limits extend from 1.06 miles east of FM 159 to 0.03 miles east of FM 1155. This will affect portions of Brazos, Grimes, and Washington Counties. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 6:00p.m. at the Navasota Center. Project information, including a project location map, the planned layout, and environmental study, will be available for viewing by the public beginning at 5:00p.m. prior to the formal hearing proceedings. These documents will also be available at the Bryan District Office at 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway in Bryan. A brief presentation describing the project will be followed by an opportunity for public comments. Written comments will be accepted for ten days after the hearing.

TxDOT intends to realign the SH 105 roadway and construct new bridges over the Navasota and Brazos Rivers and Coles Creek. The proposed project is needed because the westward migration of the Brazos River has compromised the foundation of the east approach to the Brazos River Bridge on SH 105.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve safety along SH 105 by relocating the Brazos River Bridge to a more stable location and to realign and replace structurally obsolete bridges at the Navasota River and Coles Creek. Construction is tentatively targeted to begin in 2015.

Approximately 96.9 acres of additional right-of-way will be required to accommodate the proposed bridges. This would not result in any relocations. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition can be obtained from the Bryan District office.

The placement of temporary or permanent dredge or fill material into potentially jurisdictional waters of the U.S. would be authorized under a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Nationwide Permit 14 without a Pre-Construction Notification and under a USACE Section 404 Individual Permit.

All interested citizens are invited to attend this hearing. Comments may be presented at the hearing or in writing to Mr. Robert A. Appleton, P.E., Bryan Director of Transportation Planning and Development at: TxDOT, 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan, Texas 77803-5190 on or before September 22, 2013.
