An SUV fire along Highway 6 near Harvey Road in College Station forced firefighters to divert traffic Tuesday night.

Police say a man noticed something wasn't quite right with the handling of his vehicle. He pulled over, got out, and noticed smoke coming from the car. The man called 911 when his engine caught fire.

A sergeant with the College Station Police Department tells News 3 that the fire jumped from the SUV to the grass nearby. Firefighters from CSFD were able to put the fire out quickly,

Northbound Highway 6 traffic was diverted at the Harvey Road exit for about thirty minutes as firefighters put out the fires.

No injuries were reported.
