A SWAT standoff came to an end early Wednesday after police said three suspects were taken into custody inside a Brookeshire Brothers grocery store in Bellville.

The Bellville Police Department said an alarm was triggered in the 700-block of South Front Street just before 3 a.m. The alarm company monitoring the store’s video feed told police that three men, possibly armed with a gun, were walking around inside.

A SWAT team made entry and took all three men into custody around 4:30 a.m. It was later determined the suspects, all of whom were from Houston, did not have any guns.

Police said one of the men became sick from something he consumed in the store’s pharmacy, and he was sent to the hospital as a precaution.

Police said the men used crow bars and sledge hammers to break in, and it’s believed they were going after the store’s safe.
