San Antonio: Police Return Fire, Kill Gunman

By  |

San Antonio police have shot and killed a gunman who opened fire on officers responding to a report of a suicidal person.

Police Chief William McManus says the gunman was fatally shot before dawn Thursday. No officers were hurt.

McManus says officers were dispatched after being contacted by operators of a crisis hotline about a man threatening suicide. McManus says police searched the area and found the gunman along a roadway.

Police say the suspect taunted and threatened the officers, firing at least once. Two officers then shot the man, who later died at a hospital.

His name was not immediately released.
