Santa's Wonderland Seeing Record Crowds, Traffic Tie-Ups On Weekends

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas It's becoming one of the biggest Christmas attractions in the state.

And the more people that come the longer the wait.

Santa's Wonderland south of College Station is experiencing record turnout this year.

Organizers are working on ways to accommodate the overflow crowds.

From millions of Christmas lights, to songs of the season and snowfall.

To checking if you're on the naughty or nice list, Santa's Wonderland has been a family tradition for 16 years. And the crowds keep coming.

"We specifically waited until a weekday," said visitor Greg Marbach.

Marbach brought his family of four for the first time from Katy.

"In fact we were gonna come up with friends yesterday and we said I think we'll wait for tomorrow. And they told us that Saturday was a record crowd I think," he said.

Thousands of people are coming to see the lights each day. On the weekends people wait in their cars in lines sometimes more than two miles long.

"We're getting a lot of traffic at Santa's Wonderland, more than we've ever seen before," said Scott Medlin, where Santa's Wonderland is the family business.

They recently started a shuttle during peak times from the H-E-B at Tower Point, but are still working on a better way to improve traffic.

"That's a growing pain but it's a positive thing and we're looking to work things out and make it better for our patrons," Medlin said.

Officially there are more than 2.5 million lights here at this Christmas experience, but they've sort of lost count. They now say there could be upwards of 3 million.

"It's fantastic and for the kids it's a bit overwhelming at first but it's really exciting," added Greg Marbach.

A December destination but one organizers recommend you come as early as you can in the evening to see.

Santa's Wonderland is open 6 P.M. to 11 P.M. Sunday through Thursday and 6 P.M. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.

The majority of visitors are from the Greater Houston area.
