Pattie Sears, director of Tourism at the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau, today was named the recipient of the 2013 Gene Phillips Hospitality Award from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The award was presented in Lubbock as part of the annual Texas Travel Counselors Conference.
With 26 years of experience at the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sears provides first-rate customer service to all visitors. She currently serves on the boards of both the Bryan-College Station Sister City Association and the Worldfest Organization. Sears collaborates with TxDOT’s Travel Information Center in Orange to keep the center updated on all Bryan-College Station-area tourism news and also promotes Bryan-College Station at AAA’s annual trade show in Houston.
“Throughout her years at the Bryan-College Station CVB, Patti has shown a love and enthusiasm for Texas,” said Margo Richards, director of TxDOT’s Travel Information Division. “She is a true ambassador for the state and is more than deserving of this award.”
The Gene Phillips Hospitality Award recognizes Sears’ contributions to Texas’ $57.5 billion travel industry; her support of the state’s tourism program; and her support of TxDOT’s Travel Information Centers, which greeted more than 2 million visitors to Texas last year. The hospitality award is named in honor of the late Gene Phillips, who managed Aquarena Springs in San Marcos and was a driving force in the emerging tourism industry in the 1970s.
The award was presented during the 58th annual Texas Travel Counselors Conference, a meeting of Texas travel professionals and representatives of TxDOT’s Travel Information Division, the Texas Travel Industry Association, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the American Automobile Association and city information centers.
