Seven employees within The Texas A&M University System offices were laid off after the results of an efficiency study, commissioned by Chancellor John Sharp, was released this morning.

The Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communications with the Texas A&M System, Steve Moore, says why.

"The thing that is challenging all of us is, and it's true in the world today, and it's true with what most of us do, is you are asking to do more with less,” said Moore.

A consulting firm called MGT of America, Inc. suggested several changes within the Texas A&M System Offices.

Moore says that the report indicates they eliminate positions, but those positions have not been filled yet. Moore says that the good news about this entire report is that he doesn't anticipate any more layoffs.

All managers of departments within the System offices were notified of the consultant’s recommendations. That includes Moore who helps oversee the communications department.

"The consultants said maybe we had too many people based on the ratios of employees to faculty to students, and we took that into consideration and said that makes sense,” said Moore.

The communication department will look at how they can consolidate tasks. Laying more employees off is not an option according to Moore.

"I think employees going forward can look forward to the fact that we are always going to be looking for ways to be more efficient and effective in the way we operate, and they will be encouraged to find ways to do so,” Moore said.

Moore says the report is a tool managers with the System offices will use to determine how to efficiently run their department.
