Sex Offender Pleads Guilty in Burleson County to Capital Murder

Registered sex offender Eddie Lee plead guilty today to murdering a Caldwell woman and then sexually assaulting her granddaughter.

It's a crime that stopped much the city of Caldwell in its tracks. Nearby schools were put on lockdown, and entire neighborhoods were closed off during a long, armed standoff with police and SWAT.

Edward Clinton Lee showed little emotion as a Burleson County Judge sentenced him to life in prison Monday afternoon - this just hours after he pleaded guilty to capital murder.

His sentencing comes ten months after the 52-year-old shot and killed his longtime girlfriend Jean Slovacek inside her Caldwell home on June 29th. That ended with a lengthy standoff that involved Undercover Agents with D-P-S, Caldwell Police and the Burleson County Sheriff's Office.

Police learned of the murder from Slovacek's teen granddaughter, who escaped from the home after investigators say she was sexually assaulted by Lee for several hours before her getaway.

Hours after the stand-off began-- Lee surrendered to Burleson County Sheriff's Deputies, Texas Rangers and State Troopers.

Lee was last arrested in 1993 for indecency with a child when he exposed himself to a 13-year-old. He was sentenced to ten years in prison for that crime and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
