A Brazos County man wanted for a string of vehicle burglaries across at least three different counties has been arrested. And that includes vehicles hit in the Nantucket subdivision in College Station. Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk says the accused thief even broke into a marked D-P-S patrol car in Montgomery County, stealing some electronics.
It all began with a tip from a car burglary victim.
Sheriff Kirk: His iPad had an application that allowed him to track its location and he tracked it to an area out in rural Brazos County.
Sheriff Chris Kirk says the GPS from the iPad led them to the general area of the 21 Palms RV Park on U.S. Highway 21 East.
“The deputy just took it upon himself to talk to people out there and he discovered a trailer that people were kind of nervous about and he just put two-and-two together and just started asking the right questions,” said Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk.
Those questions led them to Shaun McGuigan's trailer; but once investigators made entry inside.
“Ultimately we were able to recover the stolen iPad, iPhone and a number of other stolen items,” Kirk explained.
Sheriff Kirk says McGuigan confessed to at least four more vehicle burglaries during a search of his residence.
“It's quite a long list of things, but we have already confirmed items from that burglaries out of college station, one out of Bryan and one out of Montgomery County,” said Kirk.
In fact Kirk according to the arrest report, McGuigan confessed to stealing a black bag containing electronics out of a marked DPS Tahoe in the Conroe area. Earlier this week College Station police released information on a string of car break-ins in the Nantucket subdivision. Although so far, McGuigan is connected to only two of the reported 7, investigators aren't ruling out his involvement.
“In this case we do believe there are more thefts we can clear through him in Brazos County and through Grimes and Montgomery County as well,” said Kirk.
The suspect is charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.
