Shooting Victim Continues To Be Support For Fellow Officer Battling Cancer

Updated: Thu 9:38 AM, Aug 16, 2012

Constable Brian Bachmann, who was killed in Monday’s shooting, spent much of his time off in the hospital being a support system for a fellow law enforcement officer.

Bachmann was a close colleague and friend of Lt. Rodney Sigler with the College Station Police Department.

"Chemo is 3 or 4 hours of just sitting there. He told me I like sitting. He would come and sit with me,” said Sigler.

Sigler found out less than two months ago that he has Esophageal cancer which means he has a tumor in his esophagus.

"It's pretty rare, and it's pretty severe,” said Sigler.

But he says it's nothing compared to what he found out less than 2 days ago. He heard a constable was shot Monday in College Station and he texted his friend Brian saying ‘are you ok?’

"I found out it was Brian, and I was just thinking no. No. No. Not Brian, but it is,” said Sigler. “I'm going to miss my friend."

But the situation is evolving.

"He was always there to support me. I will be there to support his family,” said Sigler.

Sigler wasn't feeling well, a side effect from the chemo, but did our interview to let people know that Bachmann was a great man.
Looking at the picture of the two of them, he says he knows he's not fighting alone.

"I know when I go through what is in store for me, he will be there right beside me the whole way,” said Sigler.
