A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for Milam, Robertson, Lee, and Leon Counties from 12am to 12pm THURSDAY. A strong cold front will reach the Brazos Valley by mid-afternoon to early evening TODAY. Mild temperatures are expected to sharply fall as strong, brisk north winds arrive. A scattered rain chance could turn into a scattered, wintry mix between 6am and Noon Thursday. Little-to-no accumulation is expected -- however, caution is urged driving on bridges and overpasses.
Three people -- a longtime law enforcement officer, the alleged suspect that started the violence and a possible bystander -- are dead following an afternoon shooting in College Station.
Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann died Monday after authorities say he was shot by Thomas "Tres" Caffall at a residence in the 200 block of Fidelity Street near the Wellborn-George Bush Drive intersection.
CSPD says Bachmann was delivering an eviction notice around 12:12 p.m. when Caffall opened fire. As police arrived on scene just minutes later, Caffall allegedly opened fire on them.
Officer Justin Oehlke with CSPD was shot in the calf. He underwent surgery as a result. CSPD's Brad Smith and Phil Dorsett also suffered injuries from shrapnel, but have been treated.
Approximately 12:40 p.m. as a News 3 crew arrived near the scene, a flurry of shots rang out in the area. Less than five minutes later, word was released that Caffall had been stopped by police. He would later die of gunshot injuries.
A pair of people, for now believed to be innocent bystanders, were also shot. College Station resident Christopher Northcliffe, 51, was shot and later died. Houston resident Barbara Holdsworth, 51, was also hit. She underwent surgery at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan and is in critical but stable condition.
A motive for the shooting has not been released by police. Caffall is believed to have attended Bryan schools. He was 35 years old.
Bachmann had been the Precinct 1 constable since 2011. Before that, he had served in the Brazos County Sheriff's Office since 1993.
