WACO - Waco police arrested six men Thursday on child sexual assault warrants stemming from the gang rape of a girl younger than 16 in April.
The warrants stemmed from an investigation that started after the girl was taken to Providence Health Center for an exam on April 23 and indicated she had been sexually assaulted, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
“Officers discovered the victim had skipped school earlier in the day and left with several individuals whom she knew,” Swanton said.
“”Those suspects took her to a home in the North Waco area where they and several other suspects all had sexual contact with her,” Swanton said.
“Detectives...were able to determine that all six of the suspects had some sort of sexual contact with the victim against her will,” he said.
Devoric Javon Evans, 20, is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child; Douglas Demond Canada, 19, is charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child; Lamont Tray Davis, 19, was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child; Daytron Derrell Smith, 18, was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child; Cory Darnell Hall, 19, was charged with one count of sexual assault of a child and was also held on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and Dejuan Oshea Degrate, 18, was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child.
