Low income residents in the Brazos Valley who receive assistance from Medicaid, food benefits, and temporary cash assistance programs may soon have to travel a little farther to get those benefits.

To cut costs, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services will consolidate 56 offices across the state beginning in May through the end of August 2013 to save $11 million in leases and related costs over five years starting in fiscal year 2013.

According to the HHS website, the consolidation will not impact the 264 employees at the 56 locations.

Services and staff members at the following locations will be relocated to other offices in the area.

Brenham: 2910 Handley Street
Consolidation Date: 08/31/2013

Huntsville: 306 Hwy 190 E.
Consolidation Date: 8/31/2012

Hearne: 809 W. Davis Street
Consolidation Date: 11/31/2012

Navasota: 202 S. Judson
Consolidation Date: 11/30/2012

Madisonville: 300 W. School Street
Consolidation Date: 8/31/2012

Caldwell: 500 W. Hwy 21
Consolidation Date: 12/31/12

If you receive assistance from any of these locations, you are asked to call the Health and Human Services department for the new locations.
