Southeast Texas Courthouse Shooter to go on Trial

The capital murder trial of a Houston man accused of killing a 79-year-old woman during a shooting spree outside a Southeast Texas courthouse is getting fully underway.

Bartholomew Granger faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty if he's convicted in the March 2012 slaying of Minnie Ray Sebolt outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont.

Attorneys are to deliver opening statements Monday in Galveston. The trial was moved to Galveston so jurors wouldn't have to pass the crime scene each day. Galveston is about 100 miles southwest of Beaumont.

Three others were wounded in the rampage. Authorities say Granger hoped to retaliate against his daughter for testifying against him in a sexual misconduct trial.

Fourteen jurors, including two alternates, were selected over the past two weeks.
