State-Of-The-Art Army Reserve Center Dedicated In Bryan

U.S. Army Reservists have a new place to train in Bryan.

The new Army Reserve facility on North Harvey Mitchell Parkway is high tech and green, too.

Solar panels double as covered parking and help power the building.

It has automatic lights inside and is geothermal, using wells in the ground to lower costs to heat and cool the building.

Around 35 employees work there during the week, and as many as 200 soldiers will train at that location during the weekend.

"We're as a brigade headquarters, we're headquarters unit to 4,400 soldiers in seven states. So we have a commanding general and we make decisions long-term strategic planning goals for our subordinate units," said Capt. Matthew Verett, Army Adjutant, 420th Engineer Brigade Office.

The $14.7 million center opened in June.
